The USPS holiday shipping deadlines sit in between, with Ground Advantage on Thursday, Dec. 17 and Priority Mail on Friday, Dec. 18 for delivery before Christmas. Those are the dates a package has to leave the warehouse. The "order by" date on your store comes earlier, by however long your warehouse takes to ship. For brands using ecommerce fulfillment through a 3PL, that gap is the warehouse's daily cutoff. USPS holiday shipping deadlines 2026
USPS publishes recommended send-by dates for delivery before Dec. 25 in the lower 48 states:
- USPS Ground Advantage: Thursday, Dec. 17. This is the first USPS parcel deadline, and the one your standard-shipping customers hit.
- First-Class Mail: Thursday, Dec. 17. Cards and letters, plus flat items that ship as mail.
- Priority Mail: Friday, Dec. 18.
- Priority Mail Express: Saturday, Dec. 19.
USPS says actual delivery depends on origin, destination, Post Office acceptance time and other conditions, so treat these as the last safe dates. The Saturday date for Priority Mail Express only helps if your warehouse ships on Saturdays. If it doesn't, your last USPS ship day for both Priority services is Friday, Dec. 18.
UPS holiday shipping deadlines 2026

FedEx's 2026 holiday chart targets delivery by Thursday, Dec. 24. Express services close in order of speed:
- FedEx Express Saver: Monday, Dec. 21
- FedEx 2Day and 2Day AM: Tuesday, Dec. 22
- FedEx First Overnight, Priority Overnight and Standard Overnight: Wednesday, Dec. 23
- FedEx SameDay: Thursday, Dec. 24
FedEx Ground and Home Delivery dates follow transit time. A 5-day lane has to ship by Thursday, Dec. 17, a 3-day lane by Monday, Dec. 21, and a 1-day lane by Wednesday, Dec. 23. FedEx puts Ground transit at 1 to 5 business days in the contiguous US and 3 to 7 to and from Alaska and Hawaii, based on the destination ZIP code. How to set your store's "order by" date
Your customer-facing cutoff is the carrier's last ship date, minus your warehouse's processing time, minus one business day of buffer. The buffer covers a missed pickup, a weather delay or an order that needs a second look.
Processing time is the variable your fulfillment partner controls. Ask for the daily cutoff hour, its time zone, and what happens to an order that lands after it. Change the processing time and every row moves. A warehouse that ships orders the next business day pushes standard shipping back to Tuesday, Dec. 15, and overnight back to Monday, Dec. 21.
Write the time zone on the banner. 2 PM CST is 3 PM Eastern and noon Pacific, and a West Coast shopper who reads "2 PM" will miss it by two hours.
Keep selling after ground closes. Adobe found that curbside pickup peaked on Dec. 23, 2025, at 39.0% of online orders, so plenty of shoppers are still buying that late. Show an order-by date next to each shipping method at checkout, and once the ground date passes, make the fastest method that still arrives in time the default. Adobe forecasts US online holiday sales of $275.1 billion for 2026, up 6.7% from 2025, and the extra parcels all compete for the same carrier capacity in the last two weeks.

FedEx demand surcharges apply to FedEx Ground Residential and Home Delivery Residential at $0.50 per package from Oct. 26 to Nov. 22, 2026, $0.80 from Nov. 23 to Dec. 27, and $0.50 again from Dec. 28 to Jan. 17, 2027.
