What is a Shopify 3PL? A Shopify 3PL is a third-party logistics provider that connects to your Shopify store, receives each order automatically, picks, packs and ships it from its warehouse, and posts the tracking number back to Shopify. Choose one by checking the connector, inventory sync, bundle handling and cutoff time.

A Shopify 3PL is a third-party logistics company wired into your Shopify store. Orders flow to its warehouse, its team picks, packs and ships them, and the tracking number lands back on the order in Shopify. Choosing one comes down to five checks: how it connects, how often inventory syncs, how it handles bundles, whether it covers your other sales channels, and what time the same-day cutoff falls. This guide walks through each, then compares six providers that connect to Shopify, KSP included. KSP ships Shopify orders alongside Amazon, Walmart and retail from one building, and its fit is stated plainly in the table.

How do Shopify orders reach a 3PL, and how does tracking get back?

A connector links your store to the 3PL's warehouse management system (WMS). It is either a Shopify app the 3PL provides or a prebuilt connection inside the 3PL's WMS. Four things move through it:

  • Orders. A paid order in Shopify drops into the WMS, usually within minutes, and enters the pick queue for that day's cutoff.
  • Tracking. After the label prints, the carrier and tracking number post back to the Shopify order, and Shopify sends the shipping email to your customer.
  • Inventory. The 3PL's on-hand counts go back to Shopify so the store stops selling units that are gone. Receipts, picks and adjustments inside the warehouse all change the number your store sees.
  • Products. Your SKUs and variants map to the 3PL's item records. Mapping is where most setup time goes.

At KSP, Shopify and Shopify Plus connect to the Logiwa WMS through prebuilt connectors, and orders drop into the WMS while tracking posts back to the channel that sold them. A simple Shopify connection can take as little as 20 minutes, and most of the remaining time goes into SKU and bundle mapping instead of the connection. A platform without a prebuilt connector can still link through KSP's custom API, and a new connection can be built in as little as a week. The full platform list is on the integrations page.

What should you check before you pick a Shopify 3PL?

Ask each provider these six questions. Get the answers in writing.

  1. How does it connect? A prebuilt connector or app needs no developer. A custom API build suits unusual setups and takes longer. Ask what it costs you in hours, and who owns the connection if it breaks.
  2. How fast does inventory sync, and which way? Overselling starts when the count in Shopify lags the shelf. Ask whether the 3PL pushes counts to Shopify as they change or on a timer, and what happens to an order for stock that was just picked.
  3. Does it ship bundles and kits as one SKU? If you sell sets, gift boxes or subscription boxes, your customer buys one item and the warehouse picks several. The 3PL should explode the bundle at pick time and count components in the same inventory.
  4. Can it serve your other channels from the same stock? A Shopify store that also sells on Amazon, Walmart or to retail buyers needs one inventory pool. Two pools mean two counts, and every receipt or return updates only one of them.
  5. What is the same-day cutoff? Get the hour and the time zone. An order landing one minute after it ships the next business day.
  6. How is accuracy measured? Order accuracy counts whole orders shipped right. A per-pick rate misses a box that ships short, because every unit that was picked was correct. Ask which one the provider quotes and over how many orders.

Check the Shopify App Store listing too, where the 3PL has one: it shows what data the app reads and what it costs to install. Then ask for a reference from a store that sells the way you do.

What fees should you compare across Shopify 3PLs?

Providers bill the same work under different labels, so a quote that looks low can leave a line out. Put every quote into the same list before you compare totals:

  • Setup and integration. Whether the connector, onboarding and SKU mapping cost anything.
  • Receiving. Charges for unloading and checking in your inbound pallets or cartons.
  • Storage. Billed by the pallet, bin or shelf each month, so slow stock costs the same as fast stock.
  • Pick and pack. A fee per order plus a fee per extra unit, and a separate line for kitting or inserts.
  • Packaging. Boxes, mailers and fill, billed to you or included.
  • Shipping. The carrier label cost, and whether the 3PL's carrier discounts pass through to you.
  • Returns and special projects. Inspection, restocking and any one-off work.

Price your own mix of orders through each list, because the cheapest quote for a one-item order may not be cheapest for a three-item kit. KSP does not publish a rate card. Its team walks you through an invoice built on your products and volumes, line by line, so you can see which of these lines applies to you.

Which 3PLs integrate with Shopify?

Every provider below connects to Shopify, and each fits a different kind of store. Each competitor line comes from that company's own page, read on 2026-10-29. Check current terms with each one before you sign.

A Shopify listing or integration page confirms the connection exists. Cutoffs, bundle handling and accuracy methods live on the pick floor, so ask each provider on this list the six questions above and compare the answers. Where does KSP fit for a Shopify brand?

KSP fits a Shopify brand that ships 500+ orders a month and sells more than one thing in a box. Here is the proof behind that:

  • Kits and bundles. KSP has built 20.9M kits, with a 50,000 sq ft kitting floor in the same building as the inventory. A bundle you sell as one Shopify SKU ships as one order. See kitting and assembly for how components are counted and built.
  • Channels on one count. Shopify, Amazon, Walmart and retail EDI draw from the same count, so a retail order that leaves in the morning changes what your store can sell that day. The omnichannel fulfillment guide covers how that works.
  • Order accuracy and cutoff. 99.999% order accuracy, counted on whole orders, and 99.95% shipping accuracy. Orders in by 2 PM CST ship the same day, and picking and packing takes under 30 minutes. More than 135 Locus robots carry order containers on the pick floor.
  • Response. Issues get an answer within 2 hours under KSP's SLA.

KSP is not the cheapest option, and it does not suit a store shipping a few dozen orders a month. Sales walks you through an invoice built on your products and volumes, line by line, so you can compare it with other quotes.

When does a Shopify brand outgrow shipping in-house?

Brands hand shipping to a 3PL when packing eats the hours their team needs for the rest of the business. Watch for these signs: orders arrive daily and packing drags into the afternoon, you launch kits or subscription boxes that need assembly, you add Amazon or a retailer and the counts stop matching, or a peak season would need temporary staff and more space. Any one of them is enough to start collecting quotes.

What does moving your Shopify store to a 3PL involve?

The move takes five steps, in this order:

  1. Connect the store. The 3PL installs its app or links its WMS to your Shopify admin. At KSP a simple Shopify connection can take as little as 20 minutes.
  2. Map SKUs and bundles. Each Shopify variant is matched to a warehouse item, and each bundle to its components. Clean, unique SKUs in Shopify shorten this step.
  3. Ship in your inventory. Send a packing list with every inbound shipment so the warehouse checks counts against it. The counts your store sells from start with this receipt.
  4. Run test orders. Place a few real orders and confirm each one is picked, shipped and gets its tracking number back in Shopify.
  5. Stop shipping in-house. Turn off fulfillment from your old location once the 3PL's counts are live, so two places never ship the same order.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Shopify 3PL?

A Shopify 3PL is a third-party logistics provider connected to your Shopify store. It receives each order automatically, stores your inventory, picks, packs and ships the order, and sends the tracking number back to Shopify. You keep selling in Shopify while the 3PL handles the warehouse work.

How does a 3PL integrate with Shopify?

Through a connector, either a Shopify app or a prebuilt connection in the 3PL's warehouse management system. Orders flow to the warehouse, tracking and inventory counts flow back to Shopify. Setup time depends mostly on mapping your SKUs and bundles. At KSP a simple Shopify connection can take as little as 20 minutes.

How do I choose the best 3PL for Shopify?

Compare providers on the connector, inventory sync, bundle and kit handling, support for your other channels, the same-day cutoff and how order accuracy is measured. Get each answer in writing, ask for a reference from a store that sells like you, and compare invoices built on your own volumes.

Does a Shopify 3PL work with Shopify Plus?

Many do. Shopify Plus stores can connect to a 3PL the same way other Shopify stores do, and some providers hold a Shopify Plus certification. KSP connects Shopify and Shopify Plus to its Logiwa WMS through prebuilt connectors. Confirm that any provider supports the way your Plus store is set up.

Connect your Shopify store to KSP

Send us your store link, your SKU count and a typical week of orders. KSP maps your products and bundles to the warehouse system, shows you which connector fits, and tells you how long the setup would take.

A KSP rep then walks you through an invoice built on your products and volumes, line by line, so you can compare it with the other quotes on your list. KSP is built for brands shipping 500+ orders a month, and we will say so early if your store is not there yet.
